Petersburg, VA- The Petersburg Library Foundation, Dollar General Literacy Foundation along with Bank of America and a local corporation requesting anonymity presented the 2010 Champion Reader Program to area youth as a way to promote literacy, love of reading, and raise money for the new Library in March.

"We are pleased to announce the 2010 Champion Reader Program winners. Our champions read for a total of 8,879 minutes in the month of March! The Champion Reader title goes to TaCora Wilson of Petersburg. TaCora is this year’s first place champion reader, as promised she has won a $1,000 gift certificate to SouthPark Mall; second place title goes to Taylor Clark of Disputanta. Taylor has won a one year annual family pass to Busch Gardens Williamsburg; third place title goes to Laura Ingram of Disputanta. Laura won a Swader’s Sports Park playtime pass. All other participants received a special gift for taking part in the Champion Reader Program”, said Cheryl Collins, fund development officer for Petersburg Library Foundation.

We would like to congratulate all of our participants on the excellent work and great effort to assist in getting Petersburg’s new library built. The Champion Reader Program encouraged the children in our region to read for an extra 30 minutes a day and brought in $18,596.16 to help build the new Library. “This program has brought great awareness to our project and we look forward to the promise of next year’s participation and the results that follows,” Collins adds.
